Author & Senior ERP Consultant
Briley Braun is the international pen name of Birgit Maria Braun, a Senior ERP Consultant, business process specialist, and author of The ERP Coffee Break Series. With more than a decade of experience working with enterprise systems, she combines hands-on ERP expertise with a strong interest in making complex business and technology topics easier to understand.
Her journey into enterprise software began in Vancouver, Canada, where she lived and worked for more than six years. She started her career at SAP’s Vancouver office in customer service and gradually moved deeper into business applications, eventually becoming a CRM Application Specialist. Together with her academic background in North American Cultural Studies, those years shaped both her international perspective and her approach to communication: clear, practical, and focused on the people behind the technology.
Today, based in Germany, Briley works as a Senior ERP Consultant at the intersection of people, processes, data, and technology. Her work includes collaborating closely with users and key users, analyzing business processes, understanding operational pain points, supporting ERP changes, and translating business needs into practical system solutions. She is equally comfortable exploring the technical side of ERP — from system logic and complex source code to interfaces and integrations that connect different technologies.
What has always interested her most is the point where business reality and system logic meet. ERP is rarely just about software. A change to one field, process, or interface can affect multiple people, departments, and downstream decisions. Understanding those connections is what turns ERP from a collection of screens and transactions into something that actually makes sense.
That perspective also led her to writing.
Early in her own ERP career, Briley often found that useful information existed at two extremes: highly technical documentation that was difficult to translate into everyday business situations, or business explanations buried under acronyms, buzzwords, and unnecessary complexity. She wanted something more practical — the kind of explanation a knowledgeable colleague might give over a cup of coffee.
That idea became The ERP Coffee Break Series: short, system-agnostic books and practical resources designed to make essential ERP concepts easier to understand without oversimplifying the reality behind them. The first volume, How ERP Really Works, introduces the bigger picture behind processes, data, people, requirements, and ERP change.
The name Briley was suggested by her daughter as an internationally friendly alternative to Birgit Maria — and immediately felt right for the author identity behind the series.
Her goal remains simple:
Make ERP easier to understand, one coffee break at a time.
